426. Music “Option Value”
One of my joys is creating and recording music. Over the next year or so I’m going to share some of it – in the form of mini-albums – on the streaming service BandCamp.com.
The first one is called “Option Value“. These are songs I recorded a while ago, but I’ve been tweaking, re-recording some parts and remixing them recently.
Three of the songs used to be performed regularly by my band The Bargains way back when we played around the pubs of Perth.
The arrangements in the recordings create a band sound. The style is rock/pop/indie, with a focus on melody, harmony and lyrics.
It was all done in my home office, which doubles as a recording studio. The core of the recording equipment is just a laptop, with some incredible software, with various other gear plugged in. It’s remarkable how much the technology for recording has improved since I first did it using a reel-to-reel tape recorder, decades ago. With the new technology, I can fairly easily record all the parts myself (patience is required) and combine them in a way that sounds pretty good.
