402. Webinar on adoption of new practices in agriculture
I was invited to present a webinar on “Why aren’t farmers adopting my …?” How to design projects that change practice.
It was hosted by Pru Cook for the Southern NSW Drought Resilience Adoption & Innovation Hub. It took the form of a conversation, with Pru asking me questions. It covered issues such as the factors that influence farmers when they consider adopting a new practice, designing research, development and extension efforts with adoption in mind, the ADOPT tool for predicting adoption in agriculture, and adoption pathways analysis.

Maybe look at all the work we did behind the scenes examining farmers knowledge, values, attitudes and beliefs on their practice of traditional cultivation and how we persuaded them to adopt ‘minimum tillage’ or ‘direct drilling’ with a highly toxic chemical so they could benefit from lower costs and demonstrably improved soil structure, see Hamblin and Tennant and as D of A showed no loss and them an improvement in yield?
